Formed in 1996 by singer/keyboardist Chris Martin and guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London, Coldplay started off under the name Pectoralz. With the later additions of Guy Berryman, bassist, Will Champion on drums, the assistance of Creative Director Phil Harvey, the band’s “fifth member”, the lineup was complete, and the name "Coldplay" was settled upon in 1998. After the release of several EP’s, they found fame with their 2000 single, “Yellow”. Their debut album, “Parachutes,” was nominated for the Mercury Prize, and its follow-up, 2002’s “A Rush Of Blood To The Head,” was won many awards including 2 Grammys and NME’s “Album Of The Year,” award. The album was received with massive enthusiasm from audiences and critics alike, with NME calling it "an album of outstanding natural beauty; an organic, wholesome work.”
