Ed Sheeran is an English singer, songwriter and record producer who first came to public attention in 2011 when he caught the eye of celebrities such as Jamie Foxx and Elton John with the release of his independent EP No. 5 Collaborations Project, which reached number 2 in the iTunes Chart. Sheeran's major label debut, “+”, was released later that year and has since been certified seven-times platinum in the UK, earning him an Ivor Novello award for the song “A Team”. Sheeran's second studio album, “x” (2014), peaked at number one in the UK and the US and in 2015 won the Brit Award for Album of the Year, and earned Sheeran the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year. "Thinking Out Loud", from “x”, earned him two Grammy Awards at the 2016 ceremony: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Mrach 2017 saw the release of Sheeran's third studio album, “÷”, debuted at number one in the UK, the US and other major markets. Its two lead singles, "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill", broke records in a number of countries, including the UK, Australia and Germany, by debuting in the top two positions of the charts. Sheeran also became the first artist to have two songs debut in the US top 10 in the same week.
