Sigur Ros at Moda Center

For first-time listeners, Sigur Rós’ genre may be a bit vague. The songs are melodic and ethereal, almost scenic, with rock influences. In his write-up, music critic Al Newstead mentioned that Sigur Ros’ music “felt alien but also warm and comforting.” He then added that he “had interpreted the song as another stroke of cosmic, angelic majesty.”

Sigur Rós is an award-winning band. Singing in Icelandic, the band crosses all language barriers through music. They had won numerous Icelandic Music Awards since the year 2000. Their most notable award is the 2003 MTV EMA for Bes Video for their song “Untitled.” In 2004, they were nominated by the Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album. In 2013, their music video for “Valtari” won Best Choreography at the UK Music Video Awards.

Although their last album was released in 2013, Sigur Rós continued to tour the world until 2016. Recently, the band announced that they are going back on a world tour. They are also working on a new album, the first since 2013. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of their critically-acclaimed third full-length album ().

Even though the band has yet to win their first Grammy and their performances in the charts are satisfactory, the band never failed to receive raving reviews from fans and music critics. Many music reviewers acknowledge that the band has a niche appeal, but fans simply think that other music enthusiasts have yet to discover the gem that is Sigur Rós.
