The wide range of events at Moda Center means that many types of staging are employed. Sports events use stadium seating designed in bowl fashion, while concerts usually have a stage set up at the north end. In recent years, the ‘Theater of the Clouds’ configuration has become popular for more intimate stage shows. For this, huge curtain backdrops are set up around a space in the middle of the arena. Performers play to an audience seated on the east and west sides.

What to expect at Moda Center concerts

When you go to Moda Center concerts, you’ll find yourself in the Rose Quarter entertainment district. Plenty of parking is available nearby, some of it directly adjacent to the stadium. Locals recommend trying to park as low down in a parking garage as you can, so you don’t have to wait a long time in line to get out. See our Parking page for more detailed advice.

Moda Center is a popular venue for all types of events, from basketball to music concerts. The management team and staff are highly commended by visitors and the facilities are clean. The food concessions at Moda Center are pricey, but offer a good range with some local products like Portland brews. It’s a cashless venue, but conversion facilities are available.

People love the courtside seats, which put you right up close and personal with the players. Higher up seats are also great, and there are large video screens and scoreboards to relay the action. The acoustic system is very advanced, but people with floor tickets say that the hanging panels can sometimes obstruct their view of the stage.

The atmosphere at the Moda Center depends on the event you’re attending. If you are going to an NBA Portland Trail Blazers basketball game, expect large crowds, as is common with sporting events. Things could get loud and a little rowdy, so be sure that you’re prepared for the busy and buzzing vibe!

Music concerts are sure to attract high-energy crowds too. However, if you’re attending a drama performance or something that isn’t as bombastic, expect a mellow and toned-down atmosphere.

Famous performers at Moda Center

The first ever artists to headline at Moda Center were David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails, back in 1995. Since that memorable opening, a whole host of notable musicians have appeared at Moda Center, including Foo Fighters, Darius Rucker, Sheryl Crow, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Madonna and many more.

Upcoming events for 2023 will see a host of notable performers, including Janet Jackson, Bryan Adams, Sting and Aerosmith. You’ll also have monster trucks, Jurassic World and Portland teams’ games.
